When did life get so complicated?

TEEN ANXIETY & STRESS

Between school, friendships, and family expectations, many teens feel constant pressure. Constant worry can make every day feel overwhelming.

BULLYING & PEER PRESSURE

Whether online or at school, bullying and peer pressure can leave teens feeling trapped, insecure, or ashamed.

LOW SELF-ESTEEM

It’s hard to feel good about yourself when you’re comparing, doubting, or worrying about not being “enough", especially in today’s world, where social media constantly shows filtered highlights that make it easy to feel like you’re falling behind.

Teens want to be understood, not judged.

At Rise Mental Health, we give teens a space to sort through their feelings, figure out who they are, and start feeling like themselves again. Sessions are available in-person and virtually for clients across Georgia.

What Is Teen Therapy?

Teen therapy is a supportive space where young people can talk openly without judgment or pressure. We use approaches like  CBT/DBT, ACT (Acceptance & Commitment Therapy), Trauma focused therapy such as EMDR, ADHD Skills Coaching, and culturally sensitive therapy, along with Expressive Arts therapy such as journaling, role plays, sandtray therapy, and mindfulness, to make sessions practical and relatable.

Why Consider Teen Therapy for Your Child?

As a parent, you might notice that your teen has been pulling away, struggling with mood changes, or shutting down when asked how they’re doing, but you’re not sure how to get them to open up. The truth is, even when teens want to talk, some things feel too uncomfortable to share at home. Therapy creates a bridge to a space where they can sort through anxiety, depression, trauma, bullying, or peer pressure, while building confidence, healthier coping skills, and stronger connections with family and friends.

Challenges Teens May Be Facing

Anxiety and Overthinking

Worries, “what if” thoughts, or panic that make everyday life harder.
Teen therapy can give your teen calming tools and help them feel more in control.

Feeling down, irritable, or losing interest in things that used to bring joy, sometimes even turning to self-harm as a way to cope with overwhelming emotions. With steady support, teens can learn healthier ways to manage what they’re feeling and start to feel lighter and more motivated again.

Tension at home, arguments, or the feeling that parents just don’t get them, especially when cultural or generational differences make it even harder to connect. Therapy for teens creates space to be heard, understood, and build healthier communication at home.

Social stress that chip away at confidence and self-esteem.
Teen therapy helps teens strengthen self-worth and stand more confidently in who they are.

Grief, painful experiences, or big life changes like divorce.
Having a safe place to process can ease the weight and bring a sense of healing.

Trouble focusing, staying motivated, or feeling overwhelmed by expectations.
Therapy for teens can boost coping skills and help teens feel more capable in school and beyond.

Trouble focusing, staying organized, or keeping up with school and responsibilities, especially when ADHD makes it harder to manage everyday tasks. With the right support, teens can learn strategies that work for their brains and start feeling more confident and in control.

Frequent outbursts, irritability, or feeling like emotions take over before they can catch their breath. With support, teens can learn to understand what’s behind their anger and find calmer, healthier ways to express how they feel.

Frequently Asked Questions About Teen Therapy

Yes, but in a balanced way. Teens need privacy to feel safe in therapy, so what they share with their therapist stays private, with the exception of safety concerns (such as extreme self-harm, abuse, or risk of harm to self or others). Parents receive updates on general themes and progress, but not the details of every session. This balance helps build trust while keeping parents informed.

Our approach with teens is always tailored to their unique needs. This may involve talking through thoughts and feelings, building stress-management skills, or practicing new coping strategies. We use evidence-based methods  (CBT, DBT, ACT, EMDR, and Expressive Arts such as sandtray work, journaling, and role plays to keep sessions engaging. And when it’s helpful, we bring parents in to support the process.

You might notice your teen seems moodier than usual, pulls away from family or friends, struggles with school, complains of headaches or stomachaches, has trouble sleeping, gets irritable quickly, or no longer enjoys the things they used to love. If these patterns keep showing up, it may be a sign that they could benefit from extra support.

It’s completely normal for teens to feel unsure or even resistant about starting therapy. Many teens feel this way. We encourage them to give it a few sessions before making up their mind. Once they experience what it’s like to have a safe space where their voice is heard, many start to feel more comfortable and even find it really helpful.

We do not prescribe medication, but if we believe a psychiatric evaluation could be helpful, we collaborate with medical providers to ensure your teen receives comprehensive care.

It varies. Some teens come for a few months to work on specific issues, while others find long-term support helpful. Goals and progress are reviewed regularly, and we adjust the therapy plan as we go.

If both of you are available, that’s great, it can be helpful for your teen to meet the therapist and get a sense of what sessions will be like. However, if only the parent can attend, that’s perfectly fine too. The consult is simply a chance to discuss your goals, ask questions, and see if it feels like a good fit.
